About Project Sang Khem

Established in 2003, Project Sang Khem aims to assist the Cambodian youths in enhancing their education experience. The Sang Khem Youth Centre was constructed in 2004 in Prey Veng province with the objective of providing an avenue where youths can have access to basic educational facilities that they lack, due to poverty.
Over the years, the project has developed with the goals of educating and imprating skills to local youths. This year, besides upgrading current facilities in the centre, we hope to advance and branch out into different aspects of education. We are going to teach basic conversational English to further their linguistic abilities. Handicrafts lessons will also be held so as to equip them with skills useful as a source of income. In addition, as we believe in incorporating fun into our trip, activities like games, music and dance lessons will be held to better connect with the youths.
Furthermore, we seek to encourage the active participation of NUS students in social service and and volunteerism. We also endeavor to instill a sense of compassion in the participants by providing them with an opportunity to reach out to the less fortunate, overseas.
The trip will be held in December for an approximated span of 17 days. A variety of programs which seek to not only benefit the Cambodian youths, but also our participants, will be conducted. These programs include educational camp, facilitation sessions, recreational time and even doing our own cooking!
